Mary Diamond

Fabric artist Mary Diamond fashions wall quilts, wearable art and soft sculpture. Her work is inspired and influenced by her natural surroundings in her beloved Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Through her exploration of nature’s palette and textures, the teaching of fiber art workshops and the exhibition of her work in fiber art venues nationally and internationally, Mary keeps her artistic horizon expanding.

“Although I start the creative process with a particular idea, poem, experience or  a collection of natural objects such as leaves, stones, and shells, the fiber piece will quickly take over.” She also enjoys working with African prints, strongly influenced by a half-year residence in Kenya. Mary explains the serendipity of the creative process and claims that it is definitely the fiber art muse who leads her on. Some of her pieces elicit a thoughtful response from the viewer, and others, with their sense of whimsy, fetch a smile.
