Quilt Divas in the News

The Ithaca Times ran a wonderful review of "Fifteen: Celebrating 15 Years of the Quilt Divas" in the July 6th issue! Read the article here.
Errata: the person looking through the breaking wave is Ruth A. White and the quilt is her "Breaker 3". Also, Joan Lockburner Deuel did not use wire to shape "In the Grate". Instead she used a thick Aida cloth that she molded to create the freeform shape.

The Quilt Divas are in the December 2012/January 2013 issue of Quilting Arts! Lynn Krawczyk posed several questions about our group and Women Empowering Women, the quilted panels we created for Dining For Women.

Read more about Sally in the interview: "Lansing Fiber Artist Creates World Class Fun" in the 12/2/2011 online edition of the Lansing Star!

The Quilt Divas were featured in "Uncommon Art," a two page article by Glynis Hart in the November 23rd Prime Times supplement.

Making Objects, Marking Time
A Found Installation by The Oiseaux Sisters, Susan Dollmaker Andrews and Carolyn Rose Fellman

As mixed media artists, we craft objects that tell a story. We use metal, cloth, clay, plaster, paper and paint to suggest a narrative. Sometimes a found object may start the process. An old key, a glove, a hat, a lunch box or a ball of twine may initiate the imagining. Perhaps a text may claim us. A song lyric, a poet's language, a fragment of a letter from home, or a folk tale or myth might start the process. An image may be the catalyst. It may be from art history, family history, the view of a favorite place, person or thing. The work traces our individual and collective experience through time, space and the imagination.

Five Quilt Divas, Carol Boyer, Elsie Dentes, Joan Lockburner Deuel, Cindy Henry, and Cheri Sheridan filled the walls of the Quilters Corner Gallery with a feast of saturated colour in "Diverse Divas, Contemporary Fiber Art from Five Quilt Divas." Meet the artists at a wine and cheese reception on First Friday Gallery Night at Quilters Corner, 518 West State Street, Ithaca, New York this Friday, August 3rd from 5 - 8 pm. The exhibit will be on display for ten days, until Sunday, August 12. Please join us in thanking and supporting Quilters Corner for their promotion of the fiber arts!

In July, a group exhibit by the Quilt Divas kicked off the inaugural First Friday Gallery Walk at Quilters Corner.
