Sally Dutko ARTIST STATEMENT My fiber art has been influenced by my fine arts background (Cooper Union) and graphic design career (Cornell University). I love the element of surprise and excitement when dyeing and painting fabrics, then assembling them into compositions or surface design treatments. I combine textures, patterns, color and mixed-media | ![]() elements, both man-made and natural, with layers of fabrics and papers to create collages, art quilts, and soft sculptures. These can be abstract, figurative, whimsical, or inspired by environments around me. |
As I work intuitively on several pieces at once, the thrill of exploring color, texture, and pattern challenges me to take a different route, a different approach, or have a different vision. Much of my work represents a feeling, an impression, or a moment. I am passionate about nurturing my creative spirit as I work in fabrics of all kinds, and relish the surprises that happen with each piece created.
