"Although I start the creative process with a particular idea and with a collection of natural
objects such as leaves, stones, and shells, the fiber piece will quickly take over." Mary
explains the serendipity of the creative process and claims that it is definitely the fiber art
muse who leads her on. Some of her pieces elicit a thoughtful response from the viewer, and
others, with their sense of whimsy, fetch a smile.
Presently
Mary is focusing in cloth portraiture, looking at the human identity in
relation to its
environment. She also enjoys working with African prints,
strongly influenced by a half-year
residence in Kenya.
